Friedrich Pfeiffer dirigiert Philharmonic Generations Vienna im Musikverein Wien

Concert proposals — inspiration, sound, and passion

Philharmonic Generations Vienna presents six diverse concert programs for the upcoming season under the artistic direction of Friedrich Pfeiffer. They combine classical masterpieces with contemporary elements and reflect the distinctive Viennese sound tradition. The programs presented serve as inspiration and can, of course, be tailored to the occasion, venue, and framework of your event.

Program 1 – Classical Elegance

FELIX MENDELSSOHN BARTHOLDY String Symphony No. 1 in C major
JOSEPH HAYDN Cello Concerto in C major – Soloist Alina Holender
SAMUEL BARBER Adagio for Strings
WOLFGANG AMADEUS MOZART Symphony in A major, K. 201

A program of classical clarity and lyrical elegance. Haydn’s Cello Concerto and Mozart’s early symphony frame Mendelssohn’s youthful brilliance and Barber’s deeply moving Adagio — an evening of harmonic beauty and emotional depth.

Program 2 – Colors of Modern Sound

WOLFGANG AMADEUS MOZART Overture to “Le nozze di Figaro” (Harmoniemusik)
ANTONÍN DVOŘÁK Serenade for Winds, Op. 44
LEONARD BERNSTEIN Suite from “West Side Story” for Brass
LEONARD BERNSTEIN Turkey Trott

This program bridges Viennese Classicism and American modernism. Dvořák’s romantic richness and Bernstein’s rhythmic vitality infuse the evening with lightness, exuberance, and a vibrant musical pulse.

Program 3 – Energy and Esprit

SERGEI PROKOFIEV Symphony No. 1 in D major, Op. 25 “Classical”
ASTOR PIAZZOLLA Classic Pieces
DMITRI SHOSTAKOVICH Symphony No. 9 in E-flat major, Op. 70

Three composers who master the interplay of irony, form, and emotion in their own unique ways. A program full of energy, rhythmic precision, and orchestral brilliance — shaped by the same artistic openness that defined Leonard Bernstein and inspired Friedrich Pfeiffer to found Philharmonic Generations Vienna.

Program 4 – Viennese Melange

JOHANN STRAUSS Waltzes and Polkas

An evening dedicated entirely to the Viennese sound. Waltzes, polkas, and marches from the Strauss dynasty create a festive atmosphere and capture the unmistakable spirit of the city on the Danube.

Program 5 – Contrasts

WOLFGANG AMADEUS MOZART Serenade in G major, K. 525 “Eine kleine Nachtmusik”
BARBARA YORK Concerto for Tuba and Orchestra
LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN Symphony No. 1 in C major, Op. 21 or Symphony No. 5 in C minor, Op. 67

A captivating play of contrasts: Mozart’s elegance meets the unexpected richness of the tuba, before Beethoven’s symphonic power carries the evening to an exhilarating finale.

Program 6 – Jazz & Symphonic Groove

DMITRI SHOSTAKOVICH Jazz Suites Nos. 1 & 2
LEONARD BERNSTEIN “West Side Story – Symphonic Dances”
LEONARD BERNSTEIN Turkey Trott

A vibrant program full of rhythm and joie de vivre. Shostakovich’s Jazz Suites and Bernstein’s unmistakable Broadway energy merge the symphonic stage with big-band spirit — music that moves, uplifts, and delights.
