Philharmonic Generations Vienna
Philharmonic Generations Vienna was founded in the fall of 2018 by Fritz Pfeiffer. Pfeiffer, known as the longtime principal horn player of the Vienna Philharmonic, now captivates a wide audience as a conductor. A defining experience was his collaboration with Leonard Bernstein, whom Pfeiffer regarded as a mentor and role model. Bernstein inspired Pfeiffer through his commitment to an open society and his ability to transcend boundaries. This inspiration ultimately led to the founding of Philharmonic Generations Vienna.
Building Bridges – United Through Music
Philharmonic Generations Vienna aims to build bridges between generations and cultures. It consists of former members of the Vienna Philharmonic and young, talented musicians. This collaboration ensures that the Viennese music tradition is preserved while being enriched through innovation. Experienced Philharmonic members share their expertise with their younger colleagues, acting as mentors. They use the universal language of music to overcome barriers and create an inclusive community.
Musical Diversity and Intercultural Exchange
The orchestra’s repertoire includes both the Viennese music tradition and contemporary works. Since 2019, the orchestra has been presenting the Chinese New Year concert in the Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein. This concert celebrates the friendship between China and Austria.
In addition to performances in Austria, Philharmonic Generations Vienna is also engaged internationally. In selected countries, the musicians collaborate for several days with young talents from the host country on specific works, which are then presented at concerts or tours.
The goal of these concerts is to promote intercultural exchange and strengthen musical collaboration. Young musicians in the host country have the opportunity to learn from the rich Viennese music tradition and the experience of the Vienna Philharmonic.
Philharmonic Generations Vienna is more than just an orchestra. It is an institution where tradition meets innovation, uniting the past and future of Viennese music. The musicians are united in their mission to create music, connect generations, and keep the heritage of Viennese music culture alive.
